All-New Golf R 400 Performance Marks a Turning Point for VW

2015 Volkswagen Golf

If you love power, wait until you get a load of the Golf R 400 concept. Premiering at the LA Auto Show, the R 400 boasts incredible performance. We here at Joseph Auto can’t wait to see the new model in action.

Although some of you might instantly think Slug Bug when you hear VW, the Golf has actually become one of the company’s best-selling cars. This new model features a side not often seen by the automaker – raw performance. The Golf R 400 performance makes this model a sporty alternative for adrenaline junkies.

The R 400 features a 2.0L four-cylinder that somehow manages 394-horsepower. You heard right. According to Car and Driver, the VW does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, the same as a 2014 Corvette Stingray, plus the Golf has a lowered ride height and 4Motion AWD for an added boost.

So who cares about a concept car right? Admittedly, there’s no word as to when this new model will be going into production (though VW did announce it will be put into production). This new concept marks a turning point for VW, where we might just start seeing sportier models and better performance.

2015 GMC Yukon 8-Speed Automatic Transmission Saves Gas

Yukon 8-speed automatic

Thanks to an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission, the updated 2015 GMC Yukon Denali and Yukon XL Denali will now also deliver segment-leading highway fuel economy ratings on top of higher horsepower and torque.

The Hydra-Matic 8L90 eight-speed automatic, paired to the powerful 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8, is designed to be more fuel-efficient than the previous six-speed automatic. Because of the smaller steps between gears, the engine can efficiently leverage its peak power bands and a lower rear axle ratio can be used, both of which help reduce speeds and fuel consumption—particularly during highway cruising.

Mileage will increase for both four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive models, up to 15 for the former and 22 for the latter. This is on top of the 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque the V8 already delivers, putting the 2015 GMC Yukon Denali firmly ahead of its competitors in terms of power and economy. Best Cars for Tall or Short Drivers

Subaru Outback
Subaru Outback

Let’s face it, when you’re exceptionally tall or short, not all cars are created equal. Finally, Consumer Reports hears our frustration, and to help ease our car-shopping woes, has released a list of the best cars for tall or short drivers.

In order to find out which vehicles were better or worse for each scenario, Consumer Reports tested vehicles for seat comfort, driving position, access, and the outward view with the help of testers ranging from five feet one inch on the shorter side to six feet two inches on the tall side.

Some cars turned out to be incredibly versatile and were righted highly by both tall and short drivers. If your family has both tall and short drivers, consider a Subaru Forrester, which managed to be comfortable and accommodating for people of all heights.

For those of you who are taller, the Toyota Highlander, Audi A8, and Subaru Forrester are just a few of the top-scoring vehicles. These cars offer plenty of head and leg room and an array of steering wheel and seat adjustments allowing drivers to get comfortable.

If you’re a bit on the shorter side, check out the Subaru Forester, Acura RLX, or Subaru Outback. These have seat and steering wheel adjustments that allow drivers to easily reach pedals and see clearly through the front windshield.

Chevy’s “You Know You Want a Truck” Videos Made Manly Claims

Chevy Colorado

A series of new Chevrolet videos on the brand’s official YouTube channel is delving into the psychology of truck owners. The videos reveal that truck owners are perceived to be both more attractive and more reliable, which is why the video series is titled “You Know You Want a Truck.” The footage shows real people talking about what makes “Truck Guys” so attractive.

“The films are centered around the idea that there is an inner truck guy in everyone,” said Paul Edwards, US vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “The game-changing Chevrolet Colorado will enable people to unleash their inner truckness. For many there are rational barriers to consideration, does it meet my need for features and refinement, will I sacrifice safety?  The Colorado removes those barriers by offering the capabilities of a pickup with the technology and “stuff” customers want and need.”

Therefore, if you’re looking to boost your life to the next level—or if you’ve just been looking for that one extra excuse to buy a new truck—check out the new Chevrolet videos and then check out all our inventory at Joseph Auto, including Chevy trucks.
