GM energy-efficient operations will be ramped up in the coming years. As of now, the company has managed to save $73 million over the course of the last year, receiving recognition from the US EPA Energy Star Program. GM is making green operations more widespread than ever before.
To begin with, GM installed over 186,000 LED bulbs and fixtures in order to lower energy costs—one of the major contributors to the energy savings, according to GM. Over 16 institutes under GM control each recently earned ENERGY STAR certification, demonstrating superior energy performance. In addition to saving on lighting costs, the brand also helped to reduce energy consumption during manufacturing.
“Energy efficiency can reduce electricity loads, which will help us more easily transition to renewable energy sources,” said Al Hildreth, GM’s global energy manager. “Together, these environmental improvements help us reduce our carbon footprint, cut costs and deliver value back to our customers.”
GM was able to reduce consumption at several plants by installing high-efficiency burner controls at the melting furnaces, one of the biggest drains on energy supply. Pouncing on an economic opportunity in addressing climate change, the brand is looking for new and improved ways to sustainability without sacrificing quality.

Many people know that the Scion brand was once a sister brand to Toyota. Earlier this year, it was made known that Scion would cease production and merge with Toyota fully. In this switch, the 2017 Toyota 86 was born!
The 86 was initially one of Scion’s models – the Scion FR-S. This car is super sporty, something that the old Toyota lineup seemed to be lacking. The following graphic, courtesy of The News Wheel, will outline some of the main specs of this vehicle:
Power: this car will have a 2.0-liter flat-four engine, which can put out 205 horsepower. It will also have the ability to go from 0-60 in 6.4 seconds, which is pretty great!
Fuel-efficiency: sports cars are usually built for speed and not for great mileage per gallon. This model is ready to get you 32 MPG on the highway, which can save you money in the long-run.
MSRP: speaking of money, the price for the 2017 Toyota 86 is starting at $26,225. which is actually less than a 2017 Chevrolet Impala!
If you hadn’t heard about the new 2017 Toyota 86 before, we hope you’re excited about it now! This model is now for sale at both Joseph Toyota of Cincinati and Joseph Airport Toyota.
You’re not the only one who loves the GMC Canyon! Cars.com gave the Canyon a big award: the Best Mid-size Pickup of 2016! Here’s why it took home the prize.
It helped that the Canyon was the only premium pickup truck in the mid-size lineup. It has even more value than other pickups when it comes to convenience and luxury.
The GMC Canyon was tested head-to-head against other top midsize pickups like the Honda Ridgeline, Toyota Tacoma, and Nissan Frontier. It pulled out ahead of the rest, though!
Hear it from the Cars.com editor!
“[The 2016 GMC Canyon] is well-balanced and confident both on paved streets and off-road. It’s a well-appointed truck on the interior and has some serious ability when it comes to payload and towing as well as overall engine performance,” said Cars.com editor-in-chief, Patrick Olsen.
You heard it from him! The GMC Canyon has so much to offer—its luxurious interior not only has top tech elements and fabrics that envelop you in comfort, but it also seals out the exterior noise for a wonderfully silent ride.
And performance? Well, the Canyon took home the award for a reason! With a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds and a payload max of 1,600 pounds, it can carry more than other vehicles in its class! What are you waiting for? Check out the 2016 GMC Canyon today!
The 2016 Nielsen AutoTECHCAST report, released on August 24, showed that consumer interest in auto technologies and safety features is growing as more and more vehicles come equipped with these features. The report surveyed 11,886 US consumers over a month in March and April of this year.
In order, Nielsen found that consumers care most about safety technology, then connectivity, then comfort and convenience, driver assistance, and fuel efficiency. Consumers showed the most interest in rear-vision cameras and collision and blind-spot detection and prevention systems.
The AutoTECHCAST report also found that 53% of drivers believe the auto industry is doing a good job in developing features that improve safety and reduce driving distractions. 73% of drivers said they are much more likely to purchase a vehicle with blind spot detection and similar features than one without. Consumers are also starting to care more about the reputation of the company they’re buying from.
The survey also found that connected car features are one of the least-known parts of auto technologies, with a third of respondents not knowing they existed, and millennials being the most interested generation in new car technologies. Overall, though, US drivers know more about cars and new technologies in 2016 than the last three Nielsen surveys have indicated.
Looking for something fun to do September 15-17? This year’s Oktoberfest Zinzinnati 2016 is taking place, and there a ton of things to do all weekend. There’s so much to do that it might just take the full weekend to take it all in! Here’s just a short list of things that you need to be sure to see/eat:
- The Running of the Wieners – many dachshunds will compete for the title of “King of the Wiener Dogs”. Definitely one event that your kids will enjoy, too.
- World’s Largest Chicken Dance – it’s truly a world record! Every year since 1994, everyone in attendace participates in the dance.
- Live Music – throughout the entire weekend there will be various bands in five different areas.
- Schnitzel – a name that rolls off the tongue, and pleases it, too! May sound intimidating, but definitely worth the wait.
- Bratwurst – a traditional sausage sandwich, but the flavor depends on the booth you visit. Try multiple throughout the weekend!
- Cream Puffs – no weekend is complete without dessert to top it off. Super-sweet cream-filled pastries will satisfy even the sweetest sweet tooth.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of items to see and eat. You really need to see it and experience it for yourself! Remember to drink responsibly, and take advantage of the public transportation available.
As much as no one wants it to happen, summer is slowly bowing out for the year. We’re still in the thick of the heat, but as kids go back to school, we know it’s on its way.
When fall and winter come around, we all need to remember to schedule a service appointment to cover all fall vehicle maintenance. Here are just a few items to make sure that you check out this time of year!
Fall Vehicle Maintenance Checklist
- Heater/Defroster – with cold and snow lurking around the corner, it’s important to have working heat. Defrosting keeps your windows fog-free so you can see.
- Battery – a weak battery will only get worse in the winter. Don’t leave yourself with a dead battery in the bitter, cold air! Check the strength to ensure that your car will be able to turn over this fall. Warning: if you’re not comfortable dealing with these operational features, visit a professional.
- Tires – we tend to wear our tires down a lot during the summer, due to vacations, road trips and normal wear and tear. Check the tread and overall condition of your tires. You may even want to consider buying snow tires for the winter!
- Emergency Equipment – because accidents do happen, it’s important to keep a few things in your car at all times. Flares, blankets, a small shovel, tire chains and a flashlight are just a few to start. No matter what situation you’re in, you’ll also want to keep your roadside assistance (like AAA) contact number handy.
Visit us at any Joseph Auto location near you in Cincinnati, Columbus or Northern Kentucky. We’ll be sure that you’re ready for the oncoming elements.
Road trips can get pretty messy—you’ll probably come home with a backseat full of trash, carpet covered in spilled drinks, and food crushed into the upholstery. So if you’re just getting home and realizing what a mess you have to clean up, follow these tips on how to clean inside your car.
Items to clean:
The first thing to do is clean all the trash out of your car, which is the easiest part. Next you’ll want to vacuum the carpets and the seating, especially if you have cloth seats. Buy some cleaning products that are made for whatever kind of interior you have. Cloth, vinyl, and leather all require different products to keep the material in good shape.
If you have stains on your carpet or cloth seats, treat with a stain lifter and follow the instructions on the can. You don’t want to leave stains—they can seep into the carpet or seats and start to smell! Scrub the carpet, dab it dry with a cloth, and vacuum again.
You may also want to clean the dashboard and inside the windshield and windows. Go and grab some glass cleaner and a roll of paper towels. Glass cleaner works on the dash too!
In the history of Chevrolet, there are few vehicles that made quite the splash that the Corvette did. The Corvette is nothing if not known for being one of the best sports cars that money can buy. Now, the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is taking it up a notch.
The racing game has officially been changed with this upgraded Corvette model. Where Z06 models have been known to overheat, the Grand Sport has just pure power. It’s wider with more aerodynamic changes, so it’s perfect for track use (or high-speed cruising).
Both the handling and brakes performed wonderfully, reported after testing. Top speeds do not intimidate this speed-demon of a vehicle! Racers will be pleased to learn that professional drivers have given this car the seal of approval.
Also, manual and automatic handle well over many factors. Miles per gallon are also reported to remain relatively high, even while driving at high speeds.
Joseph Auto Group carries many Corvette models. We have two Chevy stores – Joseph Chevrolet and Columbia Chevrolet – both in Cincinnati. While we may not have the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport in stock yet, we’re hoping we will soon! We want you to have the car of your dreams, so keep checking back.
Audi vehicles are the perfect balance of performance and premium quality. All of their success depends largely on what the automaker puts under its models’ hoods – no sacrifice of power. A wise company can change their product in anticipation where demand is headed, as market trends and consumer interest continue to change. We know that Audi is a smart company, and that is their plan.
That’s why Audi has announced it is retiring its V8 engines in the coming years. They’re opting instead for battery-powered electric vehicles. After the most recent V8 engine—a turbocharged diesel with massive torque—is released with the new Audi SQ7, no more V8s will be added to the brand’s lineup.
When will this start to affect the Audi lineup?
In fact, Audi is changing almost a third of their lineup, anticipated, to be electric or hybrid by 2025. This means that Audi is phasing out gas-guzzling blocks like the V8s for more eco-friendly and fuel efficient engines. Audi is one of the many automakers making this change to stick with changing trends.
While plans to retire Audi V8 engines may disappoint some, we at Joseph Auto know that Audi won’t let its fans down. Even in the form of electric batteries, Audi’s performance excellence will still be apparent.
